Pressure cook the dal for 1-2 whistles.
Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin, coriander and bay leaf and let it crackle.
Add chopped onions and saute over medium heat for 4-5 mins or until onion turns brown.
Add chopped tomatoes and saute over medium heat for 4-5 mins until it turns mushy and oil starts to separate.
Add the pressure cooked dal and cook over high heat for 3-4 mins.
Add the garam masala powder, crushed ginger and red chilly powder, mix well and simmer for 10-15 mins.
Add the ghee and chopped coriander leaves, give a quick stir and take off the heat.
